After two years of waiting, the Eiffage Millau Viaduct Run returned this Sunday, 13 September, to Aveyron for its 8th edition. Around 10,000 runners, representing 64 nationalities, took the start of an event described as like no other, with one of France’s most iconic works of art as its backdrop.
The race format highlights height and distances on the viaduct. The course features 23.7 km and 390 m of positive elevation gain, including, in particular, a 4.92 km out-and-back on the deck, located 270 m above the Tarn. The viaduct was exceptionally closed to traffic, providing an experience focused on the sensation of running above the void.
The men’s victory was won by Goulwen Kerneguez, in 1h18’12’’, for a race contested in Millau, where he has been based since 2019. The source notes that he had, in particular, won last year’s 100 km of Millau and finished 7th overall in the previous edition. Hussein Khangui (1h19’32’’) and Corentin Causse (1h20’47’’) complete the podium.
The event also mobilised a major operation for the exceptional closure of the area. The source states that there were 1,845 employees registered with Eiffage, compared with 622 in 2022, as well as more than 600 volunteers, including 55 on VTT to monitor the course. It also recalls that it is the only race in France to benefit from a ministerial authorisation, allowing runners to run on an autoroute.
