On 8 October 2023, Kelvin Kiptum becomes the first man to run under 2h01 in a homologatable marathon. World Athletics subsequently ratifies his 2h00:35, which is 34 seconds better than the mark set by Eliud Kipchoge.

A race that turns after the 30th kilometre

Kiptum passes halfway in 1h00:48. The decisive moment comes after the 30th kilometre: he covers the next five-kilometre segment in 13'51 and reaches the 40th kilometre in 1h54:23. His second half, run in 59'47, confirms his exceptional ability to accelerate in the most costly part of the marathon.

What the source allows us to say

The official publication documents split times and the ratification of the record. It does not publish an individual metabolic measurement: 7RUN therefore does not invent any.
