The Hoka Tecton X 4 ($275) is presented as the latest version of the Tecton X family, launched in August 2026. The shoe is described as a very cushioned trail-racing model, built for racing and performance. It features parallel carbon plates, a knitted ankle bootie, and a Vibram Megagrip Litebase outsole.
Among the updates announced for this fourth version, iRunFar cites the evolution of the lacing system, the Matryx upper material, and the carbon plate structure. The author also says she continues to appreciate this model after following the four “primary” versions of the range, and mentions the addition of the knitted bootie on the third iteration, which she had initially criticised.
In terms of measurements and geometry, iRunFar gives a “real” weight of 9.3 ounces (263 g) in men’s US size 9. Stack height is listed as 39 mm at the heel on the women’s version and 40 mm on the men’s version, with a 5 mm heel-to-toe drop. The 4 mm lug depth would remain unchanged compared with the previous version.
The upper gets Matryx Micro, described as a blend of high-tenacity and technical yarns, with Kevlar. iRunFar specifies that the Micro includes smaller perforations without reducing breathability, and that each thread in the fabric is coated with polyurethane rather than being coated as a whole. Overall, it’s judged to be thin and porous, while remaining structured and durable.
The midsole is paired with an evolution of the carbon plates, sandwiched between two layers of ultra-lightweight foam. The article explains that Hoka adjusts the plate design for each edition of the Tecton X line to improve stability and forward propulsion. Despite a test distance mentioned for the previous version, iRunFar says that with “nearly 100 miles”, the model keeps the feel of a new shoe and remains the primary choice for outings and training runs.
For the outsole, iRunFar mentions that the updates would be limited compared with the previous version. It includes a Vibram Megagrip compound, known for traction on loose soil, slopes, wet rocks, and muddy trails, thanks also to the Litebase construction. The 4 mm lugs incorporate a Vibram Traction Lug technology designed to increase the contact surface. The author describes solid grip across many surfaces, including during very hot runs with water crossings.
