Adidas presents the Adizero Adios Pro 5 as a new high-performance shoe, inspired by technologies from the Adios Pro Evo 3. The brand cites Evo 3 as the pair used when the first marathon was run under two hours in April 2026, and positions this fifth generation as a break from the Adizero range.
The most visible change concerns weight. Adidas quotes an average mass of 177 g in men’s size 42.5, which is 23 g less than the Adios Pro 4—around a 12% reduction. The new-generation spec sheet therefore highlights a lighter shoe for racing.
On the midsole, the ENERGYRODS give way to the ENERGYRIM, a reinforced carbon peripheral structure. Adidas explains that it allows more Lightstrike Pro foam to be integrated directly under the foot, while still maintaining the rigidity designed for stability and propulsion. The brand claims a 9% increase in energy return compared with the Pro 4.
In terms of geometry, the shoe keeps road-focused cues: 39 mm at the heel, 35 mm at the forefoot, for a 4 mm drop. Adidas also highlights an outsole that combines the Lighttraxion system, developed from running data, with Continental rubber to maintain effective grip while keeping weight down.
Adizero Adios Pro 5 is set to be available from 22 September, priced at £260. The Lightlock 2.0 upper has also been updated with ventilation zones, internal reinforcements and a reworked heel, with the aim of improving lockdown.
