Kalie McCrystal, a Canadian skyrunner, went missing while training on the Matterhorn on Tuesday 1 September 2026, on the border between Italy and Switzerland. After two weeks of searches, the authorities concluded that she had fallen while descending the mountain.
The 38-year-old athlete, from Squamish (Canada) and described as an international property lawyer, was training to climb and descend a 4,478-metre summit in less than five hours as part of an attempt on Lion’s Ridge, on the Italian side. The text states that the route is technical, and that she has already climbed the Matterhorn, with a speed record on the Hörnli Ridge in August.
Kalie McCrystal’s last sighting took place during the descent from the summit, above a mountain hut, again on 1 September. Ground searches were suspended on 8 September, while the authorities said they would continue with aerial reconnaissance and monitoring the signals from the device she had with her.
Ida Amelie Robsahm, a Norwegian trail runner, fell on Saturday 19 September 2026 while hiking along the Romsdalseggen ridge, near Åndalsnes. Police were alerted and she was evacuated by helicopter, but she could not be saved.
