The Double TCS London Marathon 2027 is set to host the UK Athletics (UKA) Championships and serve as official qualifying races for two major events. The London marathon is presented as the event that will count for the 2027 World Athletics Championships in Beijing, as well as an official test ahead of the LA 2028 Olympic Games.
The organisers also announce an exceptional format: for the first time in its history, the men’s and women’s marathon will take place over two separate days. The dates given are 24 and 25 April, with the men’s elite race on Saturday 24 April and the women’s elite race on Sunday 25 April, over a period “for one year only”.
The text also specifies that the London edition will feature the UKA Marathon Championships again, won in 2026 by Eilish McColgan and Mahamed Mahamed. It states that the race will be used to select the marathon team for the 2027 World Championships, and that it will also be part of the selection process for the 2028 Olympic Games.
For the 2027 World Championships in Beijing, the announced rule is based on the first two British athletes to cross the finish line. They may be selected, provided they hold World Athletics qualifying times no later than the day of the event: 2:06:00 for men and 2:23:20 for women.
