Stage 3 of the MDS Trek is presented as an experience in its own right, spread over two days and one night, rather than as a simple challenge. The author emphasises the idea that what participants experience goes beyond kilometres and finish lines, with a progression designed as an adventure moment in its own right, “unforgettable night” included.
The first day begins with a start outside the bivouac, heading into the desert, with a choice between two distances. Participants set off on either a 17.3 km route or a 31.2 km route, with no return towards tents announced “on the horizon”. The finish line is located in a temporary camp at the heart of the Sahara.
The account then highlights “Star Night”, an evening where participants have to sleep outdoors, under the Moroccan sky, with a sleeping bag as their only shelter. No tents, no walls, no distractions: the author describes the silence of the Sahara and a vault of stars above. This night is presented as a moment of disconnection and immersion.
After the daytime stage, the author describes the camp from the inside, with a gathering around a large fire and the surprise of a “restaurant in the desert”. Participants eat and share stories in a circle as the heat of the fire fades and the Sahara takes centre stage. Then the night becomes focused on the starry sky before sleep in a sleeping bag.
