Withings says that the weight update in Apple Health will now cost $99 per year. The manufacturer of the original WiFi weight scale plans to integrate this feature into Withings+, an offering presented as bundling other functions. The decision concerns weight updates intended for Apple Health.
Withings уточняет that the new fee will not apply to existing users. It would affect only new users from 13 October 2026. In response to negative reactions, the company also points to export options to retrieve its data to CSV or PDF, as well as other third-party syncs presented as free.
The author criticises the practical value of CSV or PDF exports in particular, arguing that there is no standard format for weight data. He explains that, in his view, companies that avoid a recognised fitness format to offer CSV send a negative signal. The expected impact is that buyers may turn to cheaper connected scales dedicated essentially to weighing.
Silca announces the acquisition of Omata and resumes the sale of an updated Omata bike computer. The device is described as a watch/computer-style format for utilitarian cycling, showing three metrics on screen: distance, speed, ascent and time. Internally, it includes GPS as well as Bluetooth and ANT+, to connect to sensors such as power meters and heart-rate monitors.
Omata also offers a charging improvement with USB-C, announced to provide around 17 hours of battery life. This new “re-release” is said to be limited, without specifying the limit. On the compatibility side, the author notes that the app is iOS-only and that there is no Android app, while the mentioned price is $800 with Imperial and Metric versions.
