Stage 3 of MDS 120 Morocco and MDS Handi 2026 highlighted the key ingredients of the Marathon des Sables: challenge, determination, team spirit and emotions. The action began with two separate starts, kick-starting the day with a first wave that set off early in the Moroccan landscape.
An hour after the first start, at 06:30, the leading pack was launched from the rear: the first 50 runners began their chase with an extra dose of intensity for the rest of the stage. This set-up added a special momentum to the race from the very first minutes after the initial start.
From the outset, the MDS Handi teams stood out. After CP1, they strung together the early kilometres and a section described as the most technical part of the course, allowing them to get into the front positions. The emphasis was also placed on the confidence needed for each obstacle and on mutual support between teams.
For the men of MDS 120, Rachid El Morabity once again took on the role of leader. He controlled the race throughout the day, with Louis Godemon and Selim Deterpigny in pursuit. The text underlines the fact that El Morabity remained firmly in command during the stage, despite the efforts of his rivals.
In the women’s race, the stage was presented as a marked duel. Laura Dumortier made an aggressive start and took the lead early on, but Sylvie Van Baelen gradually closed the gap, took over, and then extended her advantage to secure victory. Marie Kirton completes the podium after another strong performance.
At the finish, emotions took over. Medals were handed out around fatigued necks, and the text describes a blend of tears of joy and laughter. For MDS Handi, Stage 3 is presented as a historic chapter, carried by the memory of the participants.
