Nicholas Triolo is introduced as a trail runner and writer, living in Missoula, Montana. He has also been an editor for several outlets, including Outside Run and Trail Runner, as well as Orion, and he is currently working for Magic Canoe. Born and raised in the San Francisco Bay Area, he also wrote a book last year, The Way Around: A Field Guide to Going Nowhere.

The first entry into the world of writing and running is explained, above all, by the relationship to text. Nicholas Triolo says that writing came to him through sounds, in particular the “rapping propulsion” of his grandfather’s typewriter keyboard. Later, he also talks about his adolescence, shaped by Crime and Punishment, describing a turning point in his understanding of what writing can explore.

In 2007, his story changes when he moves to Portland, Oregon, and makes friends with Joe Grant, then Yassine Diboun. He explains that these relationships “express-routed” him towards distances such as 50ks, 50 milers, 100ks, and eventually 100 milers, also mentioning the Western States 100. The central point, according to him, is above all the direct link with the living world and nature, for extended periods.
